About our church

Saint Peter Presbyterian Church is a community of believers comprised of two parishes;
Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee and Mendota, Virginia.

We are committed to:

  • The verbal, plenary inspiration, inerrancy, infallibility, and authority of the Holy Scripture.
  • The five solas of the Reformation: Sola Scriptura, Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Solo Christo, and Soli Deo Gloria.
  • The Westminster Standards
  • The preaching of the Word, the exercise of church discipline, and the right celebration of the sacraments.

Our elders are the Rev. Laurence Windham, Rev. Dr. R.C. Sproul Jr., Mr. Wayne Hays, and Rev. Jay Barfield.

Sunday Worship

(No, the church building pictured above is not where Saint Peter meets. It’s a nice building, though, isn’t it?)

We currently gather for corporate worship on Sunday mornings at 9:45am. The Bristol Parish gathers at the Bristol Seventh-Day Adventist Church located at 571 Hwy 126 (Blountville Hwy) in Bristol, Tennessee. You will find the Mendota Parish at 3052 Collier Road in Mendota, Virginia. Call us at (276) 669-8055.

Sunday Evening Bible Study

The members of Saint Peter (all parishes) also meet on Sunday evenings at 6pm for a Bible study and fellowship. We sing a couple of psalms and/or hymns, hear a 45-minute message, then visit with one another. We meet for this at the Bristol Seventh-Day Adventist Church listed above.

Peter or Peter’s?

You may notice that we don’t call our church St. Peter’s but rather Saint Peter. It isn’t that we don’t want to be confused with a certain location in Rome. And rather than being an issue of style, our name has to do with St. Peter’s (the apostle’s) teaching on the nature of the church.* We don’t expect everyone to get this right, but we thought you might like to know.
